Since it's establishment in 1980, Jasmin has been fortunate enough to receive a great number of reviews by even the most discerning food critics. The following are some examples of what they had to say.

BOWLED OVER BY ADELAIDE

‘One place that will immediately appeal to any cricket lover is Jasmin, an Indian restaurant that displays 20 cricket bats, each signed by Test players, in glass cases along two walls. Jasmin has belonged to the Singh family for 26 years, and while Mrs Singh still controls the kitchen, her son oversees the dining room. Our meal incorporated some distinctive dishes: fillets of barramundi and Punjabi lamb cutlets, both cooked in the tandoor; an eggplant curry that was delicious with the lamb and an extremely hot beef vindaloo.

More distinctive still was their “feed me” menu. Aimed principally at those who cannot decide what to order after a long day at work, it could just as easily suit those worn out by a long day at the cricket.’

ADVERTISER ADELAIDE FOOD AWARDS

Best Indian Restaurant

‘…Jasmin remains our premier Indian restaurant and among the best in Australia. Everything here has an air of quiet refinement, the result no doubt of an operation honed over 20 years of stewardship by the Singh Sandhu family. The service is silky smooth, the basement dining room is full of personality, not clutter, and Mrs Singh’s food never disappoints. Each dish is a revelation, with its own spicing nuance, from the perennial favourites such as Punjabi tandoori lamb and prawn sambal to something new from the constantly changing specials list. Don’t miss the delicious breads, especially the cheese naan.’

THE QUEEN OF INDIAN CUISINE

‘…to restaurant goers across Adelaide and the world, Anant Singh-Sandhu is known as the queen of Indian cuisine…’ ‘Ever since she opened the restaurant with husband Jasbeer in 1980, it has been an Adelaide dining institution, famous for it’s intimate underground dining room, Tom Gleghorn painting collection and of course, Mrs Singh’s recipes.’

FROMMER'S TRAVEL GUIDE

‘Indian artifacts and signed cricket bats from visiting Indian teams decorate the walls. The atmosphere is comfortable yet busy, and the service is professional. The house special is very hot beef vindaloo, but all the old favorites, such as tandoori chicken, butter chicken (a big seller), lamb korma, and malabari beef with coconut cream, ginger, and garlic are here, too. Mop it all up with nan bread, and cool your palate with a side dish of raita. The suji halwa (semolina pudding with nuts) is the best I've tasted.’

LONELY PLANET AUSTRALIA - SPLURGE!

GOURMET TRAVELLER RESTAURANT GUIDE 2007

‘Tucked away in a mid-city basement, Jasmin is a SA culinary treasure. The charming Singh family have created a relaxed, quiet and plush  space filled with Indian artifacts, dark timber, upholstered chairs and well-spaced tables. The menu is a familiar read with Indian standards such as lamb korma and chicken tikka, but here they’re done better than anywhere else. Premier Mike Rann has been quoted as saying that if he had to choose a place for his last meal on earth, it would be Jasmin. Need we say more?’
